SLDC Funding Cut (Proposed)

Student Leadership Development Center Funding Cut (Proposed)

I am blogging asking your for help with an issue that will ultimately effect the futures of all students in our county and all over the state of Oregon. On May 18th, 2008 the Oregon State Legislature Joint Committee on Ways and Means recommended a budget to the entire congregation recommending cuts to the Oregon Student Leadership Development Center (SLDC), which is a state funded program that runs and oversees the Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). The Career and Technical Student Organizations include the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), FFA, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), SkillsUSA Oregon, DECA, Family Career and Community Leaders of America ( FCCLA) and the Associated Oregon Forestry Clubs ( AOFC). These are all valued organizations all over the state of Oregon and provide students with skills necessary to bettering our society. If the budget is passed and the Oregon SLDC funding is cut, all of these organizations will suffer tremendously, that is why I am calling on the leadership of you and others in our community to help the efforts of several students in our community, to organize a community rally at Max Square on Adams Avenue on the 19th of June, 2009, supporting our students and their organizations. What we are hoping to accomplish is drawing some attention to this very important issue in the county and all over the state of Oregon and convince our leaders in Salem that the passing of the proposed budget would have a devastating effect on Oregon's youth.

This is a real problem and is going to take all of us to solve it!
