NLC Days 3-6 -- Universal Studios, Disneyland/California Adventure, Opening Session, and Competition

Hello supporters.

These past few days of been really crazy and we have not been able to keep up on daily blog posts, so I am going to give updates on what has been happening.

Universal Studios -- (Tuesday)
We attended Universal Studios Tuesday morning. The advisers and presidents of the Elgin and Union FBLA chapters chose to keep the type of transportation from the rest of the members for good reason...we were driven in a Red, Stretch LIMO! (picture coming soon!) After a great day at Universal, we were driven back to the hotel in a "party bus" type of limo.

Disneyland / California Adventure -- (Wednesday)
We attended Disneyland on Wednesday. For some of the members, this was their first time at Disneyland and they were super excited to see, explore, and ride around Disney.

Disneyland / California Adventure and Opening Session -- (Thursday)
For those who were interested, they were able to go back to Disneyland and explore the area. Thursday night was the Opening Session where the 7800+ members, advisers, and guests were introduced to the Nation's State Presidents and Advisers of the Year.

1st Day of Competition -- (Friday)
Today was the first day of competition. The Emerging Business Issues team drew and presented around 12 noon today and the Parliamentary Procedure team took their individual objective tests. Unfortunately, neither one of the teams qualified to advance on to the final round of competition. They look forward to watching the finalist compete tomorrow and learning what they could have done better. Steven will take his objective test for Word Processing II tomorrow.

Union FBLA competed very well this year and they truly Got the Edge.

NLC Day 2 -- Fly to Anaheim, Angels Game

Today started bright and early at 3:30 am (Boise time--thats 2:30 Union time!!!!). After a short flight to Salt Lake City, The group was split in two--6 flying out at 8:30 am and the remaining at 9:45 am.

After taking public transportation to the Angels Stadium we watched the home team, the L.A. Angels, play the Colorado Rockies. The Angels got stomped ending the game in a ten to one score, Colorado. Now we are just sitting in the hotel room getting ready for tomorrow which is sure to be filled with all sorts of fun as we visit the Universal Studios Theme Park.

Get the Edge Union FBLA!

NLC Day 1 -- Drive to Boise

The first day of NLC was pretty uneventful. The drive to Boise went well and everyone got along--no menstural mommas! The group took Stephanie and her husband to dinner at the Cracker Barrell.

Bags packed. Ready to go!

Waiting to board the plane to California! Goning to get the Edge!

SLDC Funding Cut (Proposed)

Student Leadership Development Center Funding Cut (Proposed)

I am blogging asking your for help with an issue that will ultimately effect the futures of all students in our county and all over the state of Oregon. On May 18th, 2008 the Oregon State Legislature Joint Committee on Ways and Means recommended a budget to the entire congregation recommending cuts to the Oregon Student Leadership Development Center (SLDC), which is a state funded program that runs and oversees the Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). The Career and Technical Student Organizations include the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), FFA, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), SkillsUSA Oregon, DECA, Family Career and Community Leaders of America ( FCCLA) and the Associated Oregon Forestry Clubs ( AOFC). These are all valued organizations all over the state of Oregon and provide students with skills necessary to bettering our society. If the budget is passed and the Oregon SLDC funding is cut, all of these organizations will suffer tremendously, that is why I am calling on the leadership of you and others in our community to help the efforts of several students in our community, to organize a community rally at Max Square on Adams Avenue on the 19th of June, 2009, supporting our students and their organizations. What we are hoping to accomplish is drawing some attention to this very important issue in the county and all over the state of Oregon and convince our leaders in Salem that the passing of the proposed budget would have a devastating effect on Oregon's youth.

This is a real problem and is going to take all of us to solve it!
